I used it to do some splitting which it did pretty easily for me, even though its more of a felling style. Prior to use, I did some light sanding and oiled the handle and around the wedge and eye. So i took to desertcart and came upon the Council Tool Jersey Classic. Im no competitive lumber jack but i really liked the bevels in this axe. Its not that the axe lacked in anything I just enjoy making some tools my own and i sanded and finished the handle the way i like. I used tung oil becase thats what I had. I also sharpenened the head which i didn't have to. I really like the finish that is left on the head and it performed quite well for me felling and spliting. On a side note, the profile is slim and mimics antique handles I have seen. It feels great in the hand and swings well. It will make your other axes feel like swinging a 2x4. **Q: What size handle is this? Title says 32”, description says 36”** A: This is the 32 inch. They also make a 36 inch, but it doesn't have the bevels on the head. **Q: What type of metal do they use? Does it chip easy? Hold an edge well?** A: I believe it’s high carbon tool steal it holds an edge and if you hit rocks or nails in the wood it’s possible to dent or chip even crack the edge I use my ax for splitting logs. It does that very well had no problems with chipping or cracking but I’m sure it could happen depending on what your ax is hitting **Q: Does this axe include a sheath** A: No, it does not come with a sheath. Also, mine had a very poor handle as regards to grain orientation, and I am still looking for a good handle replacement. Also, the one I received was very badly finished in that the axe head was deeply gouged by a wire steel grinding wheel. Also, the edge temper seems soft when sharpening with a file. I could tell lifting it out of the box that this was a nicely balanced ax. It came sharp out of the box, took it out after work and split some wood with it. It did a really nice job and sharpened back up quickly.
