Excellent product for the money (~20$). I've only used it for 1 month, but don't anticipate any breakage problems, it's sturdy. I joined a CSA last year, and used a very cheap one, but didn't want to struggle again this year, so got this. The collapsible feature was my main reason to buy this one, and it works great. A bit hard to open to full size, but probably will improve with use. Great as a colander (used for pasta and didn't hurt it), the bowl part is deep and sturdy. But the other great feature is the pull string mechanism, much easier than cranking. Plus the "stop" feature works immediately. Another reviewer said the string mechanism was cheap, but it doesn't seem that way to me. I just saw the same product in BJ's Wholesale, with a lettuce knife, a small hand slicer and something else for 29.95 but that extra stuff I didn't need.

I use this a lot
This is really a handy devise in the kitchen. I can wash my lettuce and vegetables really well and spin them dry. I like to wash enough lettuce and veggies ahead and put them in a gallon storage bag so I can have a few days of salad made a head. All I have to do is take out how much I want and add the dressing. When you spin the lettuce and veggies dry, they will stay nice and crispy for several days. Of course without any dressing on them. Also, the bowl can be used for serving a large salad. And it all collapses so it doesn't take much room to store. This is my second one. The first one lasted many years before the string broke.

Cord Broke after 8 months of weekly use
Actually, we enjoyed this Salad Spinner and its ability to easily store in collapsed mode. But... the cord started fraying about 6 weeks ago and we knew it would eventually break. Today, May 11, 2011, it did. I intend to write the company to see about a replacement lid for a reasonable price. It seems to me it would not be too difficult to use a stronger cord. That is the inherent weakness of this product.UPDATE: MAY 12, 2011:I called the company and they said that they would replace the lid with the broken cord FREE OF CHARGE. They said that they do this within a year of purchase. So, that should extend our total usable time to about a year and a half assuming that the new lid lasts as long as the last lid. Also, my wife tells me that we actually used the spinner 4 to 5 times a week, not just weekly. For the price, collapsibility and ease of storage, it now appears to be a better deal. Not perfect, but good customer service is part of the quality of the product and I therefore have increased the rating one more star to 4 stars.

Great concept; terrible product!
The first one I had lasted about 2 weeks. I was able to have it replaced, and the replacement lasted about a month. Sadly, I am about 5 days past the return period on my second one so it looks like I'm out of luck. The concept of this product is great, but the actual product is made terribly. For both of mine, the string in the lid broke. I was extremely careful with it, especially on my second one. Didn't matter, it broke anyway. I'll be in contact with Progressive directly to see if anything can be done.

Useful yet flimsy
I have had this spinner for a year and a half and haven’t really used it that much. I like it a lot as it serves as a bowl and a colander together and the spinner lid is easy to operate.BUT the silicone part on the colander piece that enables it to be collapsed has a tear in it. I don’t know how this happened as I haven’t used this item all that much and I don’t store it collapsed so the silicone part never really gets stressed. I don’t put sharp utensils in it or anywhere near it. I’ve only ever used it for cilantro and lettuce. So a random hole I can stick my finger through appears for what seems like no reason, and I haven’t had the item that long or used it that much. That’s a fail for me. I guess for the price I can’t complain all that much.I’ll use it for as long as I can but just know that the silicone bit on the colander is flimsy.

If you have to have a salad spinner
Let's be honest, no one NEEDS a salad spinner. My wife wanted one, we are short on cupboard space, this works great. It collapses down to 1/2 the normal height and spins salad just fine. I wonder how the flex portions of the inner and outer bowl (that allow the collapsing) will hold up over time but as of right now, I'd recommend this product.UPDATE (12/3/12) The collapsible portions have held up just fine thru extended use and being run thru the dishwasher. The cord on the spinning mechanism, however, did not hold up. It broke about 6-9 months ago and we've just been using the bowl to hold greens. I'm contemplating replacing it (unable to fix it) with another one or possibly the 3-qt size which appears to have a direct-drive mechanism.

Easy to use but cracks
Works great! I like how it dries spinach and other veg.My 9yr old can use it and even likes to play with it 😁Update 5/18/21Downgraded to 2 star. The base of mixer bowl cracked so is poor quality. Should last a lot lot longer. Buy something higher quality is my recommendation.

One of the best salad spinners on the market!
This is the best product I have purchased and received as a gift for the kitchen! It it is so easy to use and really spins the excess water off your washed vegetables and fruits! Wish I would have known about this spinner years ago! It is also easy to clean, large and well made. I would definitely recommend it to a friend!

Ottimo acquisto.
