This book of Sam Jones' transcriptions is excellent. It's great for sight reading and it's an excellent way to study exactly the lines of a great player. If you buy this book and aren't sure why Sam Jones chose the notes he played, I'd highly recommend Ed Friedland's books on walking bass lines because he explains the concepts so well. The Sam Jones transcriptions are well worth the investment and will serve you well in your study of walking bass.

I'm sure that doing your own transcriptions is the best way to go. I'm also pretty sure that doing that work stops many players from learning from the greats. This book of Sam Jones' transcriptions is excellent. It's great for sight reading and it's an excellent way to study exactly the lines of a great player. If you buy this book and aren't sure why Sam Jones chose the notes he played, I'd highly recommend Ed Friedland's books on walking bass lines because he explains the concepts so well. The Sam Jones transcriptions are well worth the investment and will serve you well in your study of walking bass.
