A: No.  We've had this crepe maker for 2 years and have never needed to use oil or butter before adding the batter.

**Q: Does it comes with the spatula and spreader tool shown in the picture? I don't see it shown on the box.**
A: Yes. Mine came with the two tools.

**Q: How far does the dial turn?  Mine stops at clear**
A: Mine the dial was stuck at clear. I had to put forcefully turn it so it could go past clear. After that it works properly.

**Q: Is there a version with lid?**
A: I use a few paper towels and cover that with an elastic lid cover... works great!

This crepe maker is very nice and super easy to use. It heats up well and makes great crepes and other foods without any issues. Cleaning it is also very easy, which is a big plus. Overall, it works great and does exactly what it’s supposed to do. I would definitely recommend it.
