The newer 66 uses two coils in the Double D configuration. **Q: How many feet down does it detect?** A: Good , reliable to 6 to 7 INCHES. **Q: Can this be used in salt water and salt water beaches?** A: It can be used on salt water beaches and salt water. The coil in waterproof but not the control box, so you can only take it in the water only so far. The Go-Find 66 has an automatic ground balance which helps keep it stable in saltwater water mineralization. **Q: How is this better than the other models?** A: I can't really compare this to others as it's the first I've owned. I have used it a few times but no significant finds, unfortunately.
