Papers don’t shift if you have it clamped properly. Those that say it shifts, I attribute that to user error. I appreciate how easy it was to replace the blade. I’ll take my dull blade to a professional to have it sharpened. When the blade is sharp, you should find that it cuts through stacks of paper or cardstock, for example, with ease. Once you begin to experience difficulty in getting the blade to cut those same sized stacks or paper or cardstock cleanly and completely, you should consider sharpening the blade. **Q: Are replacement blades available?** A: There is, but nowhere have I found a guide to choosing one. I ordered based on length of blade and the number of screw holes. Works great. You might as well order a new chop block too. **Q: I can't get the clamp to lift using the clamp handle, how does this work?** A: You have to hold the clamp down to be able to lower the handle it’s a safety measure. **Q: It came with no instructions. How do I move the piece that blocks the paper from going through to the cutter?** A: If you look at the pictures on amazon of this unit, one item is the clamp handle. As it is rotated, the clamp goes up and down. Still for the price and heavy duty construction, I think this is still good quality. It does shift a little and it doesn't cut very precisely but it's still decent especially if you need to cut stacks of papers in general. *** Use this to cut 1/4" - 1/2" thick stack of index paper and it cuts so smoothly. If you tighten the clamp, it will not move and cuts accurately. I cut it using crop marks so I'm not sure if it cuts accurately according to the measurements on their ruler. Also aligning it is a bit off but you get used to how much extra space you need to place it so the knife cuts at the correct spot. It's also better for thicker stack of papers and it really cuts like butter like another person said. It feels a bit awkward cutting a couple sheets at a time, leaving you wondering if you made the cut fully, but it still works. Bought this because it has a blade replacement option. Sadly they got a poor review because someone didn't read instructions to push the safety lever down before cutting. It does work nicely. It is very heavy and quality made. The blade is not under the lever as other cutters have. The lever is only for the handle and the blade is parallel to the surface. It seems more safer that way as well.
