One handle had to be held in place to keep flowing. The other handle could be flipped straight up, and it would flow automatically. desertcart sent a third one to determine which one was correct. We returned the one that had to be held in place. We LOVED the silicone washers that were thick and curved outward on both sides; a GREAT seal! The flow rate was noticeably less than the plastic spigots. Not impressed. They are beautiful, though. I decided to replace it with this steel dispenser. When it arrived I unscrewed the handle from the spigot and found dirt and rust on the inside. It was easy to clean and I was glad that I checked this before installing it. It was easy to install. It did start leaking around the base of the spigot and the hole of the plastic container. I found that I screwed the spigot on too tight. I loosened the nut a bit and the leaking stopped. This valve was 3Xs as costly as many but it is stainless steel and works really well. It's style is impressive and the wife wants another for a glass jar dispenser that has a low end plastic value now.
