It isn't. The filter does absolutely nothing and it's hilarious that it's on there at all. It would function as a valve if used on some other product, but it doesn't work on this because THE ENTIRE MASK IS MADE OF A POROUS MATERIAL - SPONGE! You just breath through the whole sponge as normal and none of your breath goes through the valve. It fogs up your glasses and is no more or less safe than any other mask. I think I thought it would be neoprene or something based on the photo!One more thing - sponge doesn't keep its shape well, so it doesn't provide a very tight seal around the face. ### ⭐ Without Question, This is the Worst Product I’ve Ever Bought on Amazon *by B***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 July 2020* I’ve been on Amazon for about a decade and I spend on average £100 per month on it. The vast majority of the products I have bought have been high quality. There has been The odd product of mediocre quality but this pack of masks is by far worst.Without question, this is the worst product I’ve ever bought on Amazon.• The masks are made of foam and are flimsy. For its price you would expect it to be made of durable material.• Half of the masks are split down the middle. The glue holding it together is weak and the product is falling apart. Literally splitting down the middle.• I asked the seller to send out replacements for the damaged masks and was told to send all of them back.• The mask falls apart in the wash. Literally after one wash and becomes unusable.This product is not fit sale. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE.It looks like two pieces of the thinnest stretchy fabric have been bonded together. Hold up two masks together, you can still see light through them!I tested one by breathing hard through the vent; I could feel my breath, same result on the side without the vent.The stitching down the centre will not hold up well.
