It slams shut then bounces open and then takes forever to close - anyone have any tips?** A: With the door shut and the closer attached at the door jamb but not attached at the bracket on the door there should be about a 1 inch gap. In other words you should have about1 inch to pull on the closer to pin it at the door. This will allow the door to close slowly to about a inch before the closer "lets go" to close the final inch. It stopped closing the door and popping loudly when opening a few weeks ago. Tried to adjust it and then it would just slam the door closed.
