I then used sewing machine oil on the and that might have given them a little bit more speed. **Q: This is the first time using ceramic bearings. What is the best method of cleaning and lubricating these bearings?** A: Ceramic bearings can be cleaned the same as any other type of bearing. I personally use pure acetone, or denatured alcohol is also very effective. You should remove the rubber rings and clean the bearings by placing them in a juice bottle or some other strong plastic jar or container. You can soak and shake them in the liquid then remove them and make sure they spin easily. Some bearings may need a second or third cleaning if they are very dirty. You can also spray them out with carburetor cleaner instead of putting them in a jar but do this outside and wear goggles. Some people prefer citrus cleaners that don't contain heavy chemicals. Play a single drop of sewing machine oil or other very light lubricant will be sufficient. I have been using a turbine oil that I found at a local hardware store. Do not use WD40 for lubrication but you may use it for the initial cleaning if you wish. WD40 evaporates very quickly and is not a good long lasting lubricant. I use my bearings for outdoor quad distance roller skating, they get very dirty and sometimes wet.
