If you use anything else on the wood (like this seed oil) you will loose the protection of the wood and it will no longer be suitable for ground contact. **Q: can this be used over wood that is painted? Like for a birdhouse?** A: Of course as long as the oil can still penetrate the wool grain. I used it over a stained tomahawk handle I use to hunt wildebeest. **Q: Is this used on the skin for treating skin ailments or is this just for use on wood?** A: I don’t know the chemical properties, but this is specifically designed for bare wood. Beautiful ! IF YOU USE THIS PRODUCT PROPERLY you will NOT have a problem with it drying. Apply a thin coat and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then wipe your project with a cloth well. All you want left on the wood is some “shine”. There should be no liquid sitting on the wood. Let it dry for 24 hours. Wipe your project vigorously with a dry clean cloth and then do the application cycle again. Repeat this cycle until, it “looks right” to you. Then let it sit for a week and then look at it again. If it looks a bit “dry” to you then do another application.
