I didn't realize that they needed to be compatible in order to work. I thought it was the batteries so I've thrown out 12 good D batteries over this until I had to do some researching. I was fortunate enough to be able to swap the collar, and lo and behold - it works. FYI - these have the letters GRY, and I needed LDL.
