## Questions & Answers

**Q: I just bought a home with a seagull IV water microfiltration system. I cannot figure out where / how to replace the filter**
A: You need to split the housing open to get to the filter.  Remove the band that surrounds the housing by undoing the screw handle.  Then expand the band and let it slid off of the housing.  You will notice a seam in the middle of the housing, this was covered by the band.  You have to separate the upper and lower parts of the housing to get to the filter.  Then the filter just unscrews from the upper part, where the inlet and out hoses are attached.  Be careful withe the housing, it will dent easily.  I have found that using a strap wrench on the bottom portion and tapping lightly on the housing with a rubber mallet will get it to separate.  You may need to replace the gasket between the two hosing parts.

**Q: Does anyone know if this filter has the nsf and/or ansi certifications that many water filters have?**
A: I used to sell the Seagull IV  X1 and X2 systems starting back in 1990,  in my Kitchen & Bath Showroom and I chose to carry that filtration system because I read the test verified and extremely impressive test data and it was far superior to anything else (without the space and issues and daily yield limits of Reverse Osmosis systems.) At that time, I could swear it had an NSF rating, but don't take my word for it,( its possible it was too expensive for a relatively small company to continually go through testing).
 I recommended it to many dozens of customers who purchased high end kitchens in NYC and wanted a top quality filter AND good flow rate.  I never had a complaint. 
 Many other filters that were available at the time, like the Franke Little Butler did not have the same type of cartridge, flow rate or longevity of Seagull Filter Systems.  I remember contractors and homeowners coming back in to show me those other 'ceramic filters' completely covered on the surface with all types of sediment, or foreign particles in the water, and they would slow down to trickle after less than a month in use.( This extreme example was likely due to Pre-War building pipes common in Manhattan).
 I have owned 4 of these systems, and never had the flow rate slow down or even the taste change appreciable long after the1K or 2K gallon expected life.  THe prices have skyrocketed over the years, but this is far more convenient and far less expensive than buying bottled water (of unknown quality) and carrying home thousands of gallons of water.  I cant say Im happy about the price of replacement cartridges, but considering the nature of water delivered to the house from reservoirs or groundwater, my opinion is its the safest water to give your family or yourself.

**Q: Hello is this the model for California or is the good one for microbiological filtering?**
A: Looks like the company renamed it, but no, it is not the one for California, which is Seagull IV X-1F (CA). When I called the company a few years back, they explained (if I'm remembering it right) that California politicians passed a law that limited the effectiveness of their filter - politicians, go figure. I realized that I'd been using the wrong one, and immediately ordered this one, now named IV® X-1, the former RS-1SG.I installed this filter back in 1980, when I bought my home, and have been very happy to know it's helped my health all these year. Now it pre-filters the water going into my Kangen water ionizer by Enagic, and my water is both alkalized and has high ORP levels - which I don't really understand - I just drink it!
