I had gotten a different company's kit with prepunched holes and 'stick on' eyes, etc. While cute, I know that the eyes etc will fall off in a week and we would be left with a frustrated crafter.This kit is perfect for her. She picked it out herself, and loves the cuteness of the donut animals. The directions are STELLAR - even if you've never held a needle you can do this. I mean, it tells you how to tie a knot in the end of the thread! (This is definitely a 'do-together' project for someone who has not done any sewing, though. )She finished the first donut and is pleased as can be. In this project she learned a running stitch and a whipstitch. She is learning how to take a few stitches on the back to tie off her thread (again, pointed out in the book) and now is getting more adept at threading the needle. Every item is SEWN on, so as I told her "these will still be together in 50 years". There is just enough challenge to make it interesting but not so bewildering that she is frustrated. She is delighted with the box to display them in and is very, very proud of her new skills.I bought Klutz things for my son (her father) 35 years ago, and the quality is still excellent. They spend a great deal of time teaching the basics in the first design which is the panda so don’t skip that and start with that one.The donut box is very cute. Lots of punny messages inside and out. One thing I did find was there wasn’t enough stuffing but I may have overstuffed mine. Also if you’re looking for the panda nose like I did, it’s in the square with the eyes.
