Skinny Ant Moat w/ Guard for Hummingbird Feeders- Works Immediately!

*by H***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 15, 2019*

I have a hummingbird feeder that is attached to a wrought iron hanging post right outside our kitchen sink window. For the last two years, I have waged battle against the black ants that send out scouts to find food. The typical routine has been I bring in the feeder and wash it thoroughly and refill it with hummingbird nectar. Within hours, there is a pair of Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds hitting the feeder every 5 minutes. Unfortunately, within 24 hours, a parade of black ants are streaming into my hummingbird feeder, which then has 20+ dead ants floating in plain sight and all hummingbirds refuse to feed anymore.I was very skeptical that the Skinny Ant Moat would solve this problem, but ordered it online before I took down the feeder permanently. When I received the Amazon package and opened it, the Skinny Ant Moat was well packaged and came with very easy instructions. The product is all copper and solid, so it is built to last. I just put a tablespoon of vegetable oil inside the cub and use my index finger to spread it all around the inside of the cup. At this point, I just hung it up on my feeder stand and then hooked the feeder to the hook on the bottom of the Skinny Ant Moat. That's it! No hassle..no fuss for installation. So does it work?It has been over two weeks now and I have not seen a single ant. Reading the reviews some say it is the copper that ants don't like and others indicate the vegetable oil scares them off. Basically, when the scouts turn around and quit trying you are good to go. (It's kind of like you backing out onto the street and realizing you have black ice at the end of the driveway...You just don't go that way until the path is clear again)So a solid 5 stars for the Skinny Ant Moat Guard for Hummingbird Feeders! I love it when a product can address a problem perfectly...

    What an Amazing Find!

*by S***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 2, 2018*

I was hesitant to believe anything could truly keep ants out of any hummingbird feeder. I had seen the small plastic moats that need to constantly be refilled with water, and in my area of SoCal I knew I couldn't possibly keep one filled before it dried up and was filled with ants. So I stopped using hummingbird feeders three years ago. My husband had given me a beautiful feeder that still had tags on it because I just gave up. I saw this skinny ant moat and wondered if it might actually solve the problem. So against my better judgment I went ahead and bought it. It arrived last week, and I went ahead and filled my hummingbird feeder with sugar water, finally removing the tags. I put a few drops of vegetable oil in it, and rubbed it inside and out, and on the hook above it. I hung it from the hook outside my window and kept looking out, until I thought I saw ants on it. I walked outside to get a better look, unsure of what I was seeing. There was a trail of ants marching across the pergola wood, down the metal hook of the feeder, then onto the copper hook of the moat, and doing a U-TURN to get away from it. The line that had turned around was going back next to the line of ants marching down. I couldn't believe it. I called some family over to look, we were all astonished. Within a few hours there were no ants anywhere nearby, including on the wood of the pergola. This is an amazing find. THANK YOU sellers, finally I have an ant free hummingbird feeder, and the hummers are loving it!

    Great product. BAD SELLER

*by M***Y on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 30, 2019*

The moat is great. Well made and very sturdy. I use it to hang my humming bird feeder and it keeps the ants away keeping the hummers happy. However I seem to have to fill them with water every day. I thought maybe they had a slow leak but I could never find any moisture on the outside or under the moat. Then I discovered that some of the other little birds in my yard liked to use these little moats as their drinking bowls. I have a couple of bird baths in the yard that many of the birds use but there seems to be two or three of them that prefer to drink from these moats. So I have to fill them daily. So great ant protection with the side benefit of watering little birds LOL.As pleased as I am over the product, I am just as disappointed in the seller. This seller sends spam emails after purchase begging for good ratings. So far I have received 3 so called "follow up" emails begging for ratings and containing attachments. 2 of these emails came before the item even shipped. This kind of seller gives all sellers a bad reputation. So while the product is great the seller is very poor. If you purchase just be aware that you will get suspicious emails after. I have reported them to amazon but unfortunately amazon does not take these reports seriously.
