I liked it so much I bought a box of 12 myself. It’s a great sketching pencil and has the ability to draw lightly (like an H or HB) yet produce dark lines (like a 2B). It’s a real hybrid pencil, smooth to use and glides well over the paper. I use 170gsm Artway Studio Cartridge paper and it’s the perfect pencil. Another excellent feature is the rubber, which can be moved out as it wears and performs like a proper rubber, not like the rubber tips on those school HB pencils. It’s well shaped and a great asset to the pencil. It also stops it rolling off an uneven platform! The pencils are quite long at 20cm compared to others (Derwent are 18) so make sure they’ll fit in your pencil case and I like the fact that they come in a robust box with a nice design. I think I’ll stick with this brand for the foreseeable future. I like it a lot and I think that even at over £2.25 per pencil it’s worth the expense. Give it a try. They dulled too fast for me to write with. I don't remember their designation, they we're given to me. Palomino Pearl is all I remember. I linked them enough to find the harder graphite ones this time. These 602 whatever's are great for writing. The grey painted ones. **Q: Is it number 2? Or more broadly, will it work on standardized tests?** A: The Blackwing 602 is a 2B lead, which is softer and darker than a #2. Would it work on a standardized test? probably. But they are not a #2 pencil so use at your own risk. For a number two you can't go wrong with a Dixon Ticonderoga. FYI when shopping a #2 lead in USA is equal to a HB lead internationally. You could call it the pencil lead metric system... **Q: What is the difference between the 602 and the standard blackwing pencils?** A: You need to read the descriptions or go to the website. I like the Pearl and the 602's but just for short writing periods. For whatever reason my hand gets tired with both the pearl and 602 after much writing. I feel like I have to press harder. Both are soft leads. I prefer the Natural which is harder than a 602 and wears down less, and is darker. I don't have to press harder to get the look I like. I have about 10 different pencils I bought off eBay to see what I liked. Each one is different but similar. I love allll their pencils, but I'm sticking with the Natural as my favorite.
