We've been staying at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.2. Cost savings: If we go to our favorite tea shop, each bubble tea drink is $5. By comparison if we make bubble tea at home, each 16oz. drink is $0.49! That's a 90.2% savings!Per serving math details:- We purchased a 6-lb. bag of Tea Zone brand instant tapioca pearls for $15. We use 1.5oz. (dried) tapioca pearls per 16oz. drink serving, so there are 64 servings per 6-lb. bag. $15/64 servings = $0.23/serving.- We purchased 2 8oz. bags of loose leaf tea for $8.99 each. Each 8oz. bag yields 68 cups of tea. Since we use 2 cups of tea per 16oz. bubble tea drink, that translates to 34 servings. $8.99/34 servings = $0.26/serving.- $0.23/serving boba + $0.26/serving tea = $0.49/serving bubble tea.- ($5-$0.49)/$5 x 100 = 90.2% savings.Note that I'm not accounting for added sugar or milk here.Ingredients + straws math details:- As noted, we purchased a 6-lb. bag of tapioca pearls for $15 and 2 8oz bags of tea for $8.99 each. So I went ahead and ordered the 8" boba straws as well. These came with an extra cleaner, an extra bag (those bags are really nice and made of linen), and silicon tips (I got 2 green and 4 blue ones). The silicon tips are a bit difficult to put on, but I figured they had to be due to task they are designed for. Haven't tested it out on hot liquid yet, but I know if I need them, they are there. I tested the straw out on honeydew smoothie and it works great - no issues to report.
