It’s really easy to apply and there’s no need for a basecoat or primer so you can paint straight away. So for only a couple of hours work, your doors and windows will look good year after year after year. Protects from rain, frost, snow and sunshine Won’t peel or flake Doesn’t need a basecoat or primer Rainproof in one hour Before you start Pick a dry day that’s not too cold – above 10°c is the best temperature. Always wear a mask when you’re sanding wood to avoid inhaling any dust. This Woodstain is not suitable for decking. How to prepare stained or varnished wood Properly preparing your wood will give you a better finish in the long run, so it’s worth the effort. Wrap 120 grit sandpaper around a block and sand the surface of your door or window to remove old finishes. Not only will this remove the varnish, but it will smooth it out and provide a better surface for your Woodstain to stick to. Use white spirit and a cloth to clean down the surface and remove any excess dust. Application Give the tin a good stir to make sure the colour pigment is thoroughly mixed. Test the Woodstain on a small patch to make sure you’re happy with the colour. If you are, use a brush to apply the Woodstain in the direction of the grain. Wait four hours for the first coat to dry before applying the second. Leave the second coat to dry for four hours. You need three coats for the best finish. Before you apply the third coat, lightly sand the wood to help the stain stick for a smoother finish. Apply the third coat and that’s it! You’ll need to wait 12 hours for the third coat to dry completely but it will be rainproof in just one. If you get any stain on yourself, you can wash it off with warm, soapy water. Review: Beautiful colour! - I built my own TV stand from timber I ordered as I wanted a chunky, rustic look but not with the epic price tag they come with. I went with this stain because I spent weeks looking for a colour I liked to no avail. Came across this stuff, now I know it's more for exterior use but even ronseal don't make this colour in a varnish and I was set on this shade. Because its for an indoor item I'm only going to give it one coat, and then wax it, reason being is 3 coats is hardly necessary when it won't be exposed to rain, snow etc. I could use a clear varnish but don't want to risk changing the shade. The stuff was really easy to work with, went on like a dream. I've only just finished it so can't comment on drying time, or longevity but for what I'm using it for can't foresee any problems (I hope!) If I need to go back and recoat then that's fine, plenty left in the tin, it goes a long way (for reference there's about an inch from the top of the tin used for that entire unit, 1 coat) I'll be building side tables next and I'm pretty confident I'll have enough stain to do them too. We used two coats and it seems to be fine. We walk on the bridge, drive wheel barrows over it and it still looks great. Perhaps you could use three coats as it’s a relatively small area? Also, if it gets very wet, could you leave the van doors open to allow it to dry out? Good luck **Q: have you this product in Black** A: Nearest to black is Ebony **Q: I have t&g wood pine I don’t want to darken it what should I use** A: The lightest I have found is 'Natural Pine', but even then you will probably darken the wood somewhat. My experience of paint charts are that they are woefully inaccurate at giving a true representation of any colour. **Q: Is this water based ?** A: Yes this is water based and easy to apply. However, even though it says 1"0 year", it is not clear what that means. I have to paint over my gazebo and summer house roofs every year as it crackles and fades away. And the rain just beads off... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Needs longer than an hour to be water proof but still is nice stain. *by A***R on 19 September 2025* Looks good but you do have to follow the instructions to the letter. Also I'd ideally give it at least 4 hours to dry, heavy rain washed off parts of a raised bed planter after it was left to dry for a couple of hours.
