The mattress was dragged down a small flight of steps and across a road and the handles held no problem. They didn’t feel flimsy or at any point like they might snap. The handles were wide enough that they didn’t hurt my hands when lifting the mattress. I can’t comment on water resistance as I haven’t used it in the rain but by the feel of the material I would say it’s water off a ducks back.
