It uses the current present on the phone line to trickle-charge the internal batteries when the line is not in use. **Q: Can you change the cord on this phone or is it "hard wired?" I like the longer cords.** A: Michael is correct. You can chose the cord length of your choice for both the handset and the phone itself. When I bought my phone, I also purchased a longer coiled cord for the handset. Great phone. **Q: Can the be wall mounted?** A: It can't be wall mounted if they don't include the mount in the box. Mine didn't include one..... **Q: Does this phone have a voicemail indicator light or any other way of signaling that a voicemail has been received?** A: From the description of the phone's capabilities it does not appear to have a built-in voicemail or messaging system, so I wouldn't expect it to have a light to indicate voicemail on the unit. Excellent quality and does everything expected. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ pretty easy to hear, and see what you are dialing. had to push the buttons *by I***E on February 10, 2021* used it for a fill-in phone b/c after working from home for a year, and work phone was just not good quality with my computer settings, and no tech person seemed competent to fix or help me trouble shoot. Phone quality good (VOIP over Cox, wired not wireless). 2 things to be aware of: the numbers on the dial pad and screen are large enough to see if your vision isn't great. More than big enough. However, the caller ID screen doesn't light up, an the contrast isn't great, so I still can't see that well...altho it's not that important to see the screen, it's more important to see the dial pad :-). Most troublesome feature is that the dial buttons are extremely hard to push. It's like they are stuck. I have enough strength that it is more of an inconvenience that I can't dial quickly. But if someone is very frail, it may be difficult, unless there is a way to pre-program numbers in and then just push one number to dial. I just got it and haven't noticed that feature, but it is possibly there and I haven't realized it.
