I used non-staining plumbers putty to create a small dam around where I had marked to put the hole in the granite. I put water in and started drilling. It went through an inch and a half of granite within a very short time. I let the drill bit take like 2 breaks while I was drilling and changed the water within my little dam. But the whole thing took less than 15 minutes total I think. The whole saw drill bit doesn't even look worn. I used a craftsmen corded 3/8 variable speed drill at the max speed. The only trick is to start at an angle and to keep a steady hand when you're starting the hole.
