Well, I don't know how it does, but it does. Since I received mine I have decided I simply cannot live without it - ever!I love butter. Real butter in the stick. But, taking it out of the fridge cold and putting on your toast just doesn't work - too hard to spread. The spreadable butters in the tubs that are soft just don't taste as good as REAL butter.Enter the Butter Ball. I admit, I was skeptical. I live where it is VERY hot - how could the butter not melt and drip? Well, it didn't. It is perfectly soft and will last for up to 3 weeks (a stick doesn't last me that long anyway). You simply soften a stick of butter by leaving it out an hour or 2, the smooth it into the Butter Ball (a stick fits to perfection). Then you fill the bottom part with exactly 1/3 cup COLD water (I change the water every other day per the instructions). And, you always have perfectly, delicious, soft butter.I am SO unbelievably happy with this purchase. Seriously, can't live without it now!p.s. I was told to buy this ORIGINAL one, not a knockoff. It was $25, a little pricey, but well worth it. It is even pretty - a very white ceramic - makes a nice gift.
