They were excellent. However people complained that they were too hot, so they decided to make them differently, with what they now call "cool touch", using extended posts. Well guess what people, if they are cool, or semi-warm as these are, they won't curl your hair! I was so disappointed...I couldn't find any other make or model that was as good as the original. Until I tried these. Yes they are hot if you touch the body of the curler, but that is what the hair wraps around, and you need it hot to curl your hair! Hold the ends of the roller and roll it up. Simple. These are excellent for curling your hair, and they heat up fast. Unfortunately, they don't make a large set anymore, so I just decided to buy 4 of these. Yes, four of them. It was cheaper than buying extra rollers for the set, and if it ever dies, I have another set already. I have long layers, medium to thick hair, just past my shoulders, and these are perfect for my hair. I roll my hair, let them cool, take them out and just run my fingers through the curls. They hold, hold, hold. I don't not have to curl my hair everyday, my hair will still have beautiful body the next day, not as tight of a curl, but really nice. I have compliments on my hair all the time. I don't have the time or the desire to fuss with curling irons, besides, even that won't give you the beautiful curls that these rollers do. Buy them, you will not be disappointed. And please...if you love them like I do, let Helen of Troy know. Perhaps they will quit listening to the few whiners that say they are too hot. Like I said, just like a curling iron, they have to be hot to curl your hair. They are tapered in the middle - so their width is 1 1/2 at the outer edges to 1 inch in the middle. The container is 9 inches by 3 inches. I like them very much. **Q: are their clips to hold them on?** A: yes. These roller get really hot really fast. I don't use the clips they have. My always buy pkg of big plastic butterfly clips, but for travel the ones that come with rollers are very small. **Q: May I have the weight and dimensions of the roller set please?** A: The purple base is 8 3/4" L by 2 3/4" W. The base with the rollers on it, as shown in the picture, is 3 1/2" tall. I was a flight attendant for over 25 years, I traveled with these all over the world. These are the best that are made. They get hot, which I know some people complain about, but they need to be hot to curl the hair. That is why you hold them from the ends. Being a 'professional packer' these are very easy to travel with. Simply remove the rollers from the base, pack the rollers/clips in a ziploc, always easy to pack and find space for. I have shoulder length hair, medium to thick. I would always take 1 purple base and 15 rollers with me. As far as weight, the weigh almost nothing. I just placed the base, rollers/clips I always travel with on the scale. They didn't even weigh enough to register a weight. They heat up fast. Put them in your hair as they heat up. Let them all cool before taking them out for the best curls, comb through with just your fingers. Lightly spray if humid. My curls hold all day and then some. It will give you lasting beautiful body on other days that you don't feel like re-curling. A couple of tricks that I have learned that work really well for me. If I just washed my hair, I let it air dry until almost, but not completely dry. If my hair is already dry, you can lightly mist your hair with a spray bottle. Turn your head upside down, then right side up and spray lightly. Comb, put in your hot rollers as usual. The other thing I would suggest is this: Instead of buying extra rollers/clips for your set, which are expensive if you buy them that way, just buy extra sets. It's less expensive to get the extra rollers you need and you have extra bases in the event one of yours becomes defective. I can't say enough about these rollers. When my first set finally died after about 12+ years, I panicked. I could not find anything that worked as well, none of them were ever hot enough to curl my hair. When I found these again I was thrilled. I use these at home too, not just for travel. I have never found anything else that produces the curls that these do.
