Review: A strong and reliable wifi signal, very pleased. - Used this to replace an old BT-Hub3 that kept dropping the wifi connection. This unit is excellent value, went for the 1200 as for the small price difference it was the most powerful one (1200 is the amount of square feet it covers). I now get good signal (50%) in the furthest part of the house where before I didn’t get any signal. I did read somewhere that the wifi units with external (not outside but sticking out of the unit) antennas are better than the ones with internal antennas and this one has four externals. As mine is in the loft its not going to be seen anyway. Very easy to install, especially as my setup was the default setup for the unit. There are other ways you can set it up and full instructions are included, access to the settings allows you to change how it is used. It can extend the existing wifi via cable or wirelessly, but I used it as a separate access point hardwired back to the main BT Hub as it is about 25m away (in a static a caravan as we are self-building). It does not come with Ethernet ports to add devices, just the one to connect it to a router/modem, so I also purchased a TP-Link 16 port, 10/100mbps, metal case switch unit which was also very good value (£28) and works superbly for my Ethernet circuits, mainly supplying streaming TV’s, but thats another review. At the moment the wifi unit is also connected to the switch and although it works fine I intend to wire separate Ethernet circuits back to the main hub, one for the wifi and one for the switch, mainly just because I can and not because i need to. Test results for the TP-Link wifi was 243ms response time / 4.4mbps download and the same test done directly at the main BT hub gave 225ms response time / 4.5mbps download, so hardly any difference and certainly not enough to notice.
Review: Full Speed Ahead! - After an upgrade to my broadband service I wasn't getting the full benefits of the wi-fi speed throughout the flat, I already had a wired network installed with a wi-fi access point but this was old tech that didn't cut the mustard. This item was purchased as an upgrade and worked brilliantly, providing full speed wireless signals to all but the oldest devices. An essential piece of kit if you want really good wifi access throughout your property. It will also work as a wi-fi repeater if you don't have a wired connection point away from your main router but this has not been tested by myself so unable to vouch for it's effectiveness. Thoroughly recommended for its ease of installation and effectiveness.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can it connect to my router though wifi (and not by ethernet cable) keeping the same speed?**
A: It's called Range Extender under Operational Mode. Obviously the WiFi is doing double duty as both wireless client to your router and wireless access point to your laptop. If your Internet speed is 20mbps or less then this is OK, you won't lose speed. You avoid this double WiFi problem if you plug a cable in. Then it will only be using the WiFi for one of the links.

Another way to do it is to use two of these plugged back to back. One is the Client to your router the other is the Access Point. Make sure they are on very different WiFi channels, you can set the channel for the Access Point.

**Q: how many lights should be showing when used as an extender**
A: 2

**Q: I have powerline adapters in my house, if i plug this into my powerline adapter will it give wifi in that room**
A: In theory yes but I’d just buy a power line WIFI adapter if you are already using.

**Q: Can i connect this to my router, switch off router wi-fi and use this as my access point. my sky hud wi-fi keeps dropping out**
A: Absolutely you can, ensure you set the device to ‘access point’ mode. It has a startup wizard which should do all the basics for you with just a few selections. I’ve got 2 of these and they work great.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Simple to setup, limited functions but does the job well.
*by R***T on 10 November 2025*

I tried this after using the EAP range for years as I needed a unit to sit under a counter in a cafe, it is very simple to setup, plug into the Router/Switch, find the IP address from the assigned DHCP, type in the IP address into a browser, and its all guided from then on. Range is good, covered the whole floor plus above, the features is very limited when compared to the EAP range, just Range extender, Access Point, but does the job well if you are looking for something simple and cheap.
