It has worked well for that purpose. I would think it would depending on how wide the fence top rail is. We do not have squirrels in our area. **Q: Can these be mounted on a vertical e surface, as in a wall?** A: There are generally 3 methods to install it. If they're implied in a wall, use screws to fasten the base on the surface. **Q: can i install it on an exterior ac unit?** A: I would think so.
