Durable with Lifetime Warranty!! *by W***D on Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2014* The headlamp works great but it came with a small nick on the bottom. It's still fully functional but given how much I paid for it, I'd expect it to be flawless especially new. I didn't bother returning it since I needed to use it before I would receive a replacement. Minus one star. (revised to 5 stars, keep reading!)[UPDATE #1: After a few months]After using it for a 5+ night fishing trips, I'm really starting to like this headlamp despite it arriving with a nick on the bottom of it. I purchased this specifically to use for when I go night fishing and this has served me well.Prior to purchasing the BD Storm headlamp, I owned a $3 cheapo china headlamp from eBay. It was good enough for home use or if I was tying a knot 12-inches from my face, but it wasn't very ideal for climbing up and down the jetties I normally fish. It basically didn't project enough.The next headlamp I purchased was from Amazon,  WorthTrust CREE XML T6 LED Headlight Headlamp Torch Flashlight 1600lm + 2 x Rechargeable 18650 Battery, Waterproof Design , This headlamp was super bright and would project the light very far. The only problem was that it wasn't waterproof, didn't have a night vision mode, and was super heavy. For night fishing, I prefer to have my headlamp on my head the whole time regardless if I use it or not. Lightweight and comfort is almost as important to me as brightness.A week after I bought the WorthTrust headlamp, I purchased the BD Storm since it was their waterproof version. I figured I would drop it in the water someday so it's worth the extra few dollars.BRIGHTNESS: It's definitely brighter than my $3 headlamp, but significantly dimmer than the WorthTrust headlamp I purchased before this. It's bright enough for me to see 40+ feet away, but I wouldn't say it's super clear. Anything within 20-30ft is very clear which is good enough for me. If I really need to see 50+ feet away, I'll use my cree flashlight. I'm primarily using this headlamp for night fishing and its range is enough for it.The night vision could be a little brighter. When I use it while fishing, I can't see anything, but I'm sure it's not designed for that, but it would be nice.COMFORT: It's pretty comfortable. Easy to adjust to straps and once it's on, I don't really notice it. Adjusting the angle is a little tough, but I suppose I have to break that in? I mean, I've only adjusted once or twice ever.FEATURES: I really like the lock button and their "on-the-fly brightness adjustment" that you can just tap with your finger. I can easily go from brightest to dimmest with a quick tap. Ideally for me, I would be able to turn it off and on with a tap. The lock button does what it's supposed to. It locks to keep it from accidentally going off and draining the batteries while in storage. Very useful for anybody who's had that happen to them.[UPDATE #2 - Two Years Later]So it's been about two years since I bought this and I finally broke it. I was being careless and I overtighten the locking screw which created a small hairline crack that would prevent me from loosening the locking screw. I was pretty bummed because I've used this headlamp nearly every weekend. I've used it for night fishing, hiking, camping and just straight exploring. It was even useful when working on home repairs under the sink and what not.Aside from the damaged screw, the headlamp shined bright and the buttons all worked.WARRANTY CLAIM: Black Diamond offers a lifetime warranty on it's headlamps and while I knew the damaged locking screw was my fault, I still wanted to see if I could get this covered under their warranty. After contacting and submitting a claim with photos, the company approved my claim within a few business days. Today, I just received my new Black Diamond Storm. It's new, not refurbished and didn't have to send back my original. I've got to say that I am definitely a lifetime Black Diamond customer.Would I recommend this product? Everything was prompt in shipping and the headlamp arrived in great condition. I'm an avid user of headlamps (I believe they are the greatest invention ever) and am very particular about the quality (ie.. lumens, weight, durability, battery life, aesthetics). Here is what I have decided about this product:Pros:Excellent light strength- I can always depend on the intensity.Trail light- I love this function and it is different than any other headlamp I have purchased. The trail light is perfect when I don't want to blind my girlfriend hiking as well as giving me a broader view.Red Light quality- I rarely use the red light, but it does an excellent job. On par with any other red light I've used with other brands and products.Fit- Just the other night I was wearing this and completely forgot about it. I realized it as I was getting out of my car to go into the grocery store (although I could have used it to search for newer bread)Cons:Weight- This is a heavy light. I personally enjoy it because you can tell that it will last quite awhile, but I could see how it may be too heavy for a lot of users.Function- As with any headlamp, there is a learning curve. Again, that is not a big deal to me though. It may be difficult to remember at times, but I don't typically find myself having to change the light type often.Battery life- If you get higher lumens then of course the batteries won't last as long. Just be sure to bring extras if on the trail.Overall:I love this headlamp and highly recommend it. Take it from someone that has really beat up headlamps all over the world, if you want a headlamp that will last and depend on, this is the one for you. Sleek, straightforward, and durable.
