These covers are durable. **Q: why would you want one?** A: I live in Salt Lake City, UT. In the summer it's very hot (96 right now) and I use the turbine in conjunction with vents in the gables to remove heat from the attic space. Come late fall I put the cover on because in the winter I want to keep any heat inside my attic. The humidity is so low year round that we don't worry about any moisture in that space, plus we still have some air circulation because of the gable vents. **Q: Does it prevent the turbine from spinning?** A: Yes because the wind can’t catch the turbine “wings”when it’s covered. I always put a heavy garbage bag over first, secure with duct tape around the base, then put the cover on and secure with duct tape again.
