Review: Useful. - Decent filter.
Review: Works for TRICHOTHECENE MYCOTOXINS!!!! Awesome****** - Successfully Filters TRICHOTHECENES. This review may sound like Chinese to many of you (at least until there is more of a public awakening about this crisis). But I want to reach those that will understand the relevance, as it may help you know what to choose. I didn't even need the 60928 filter model. The "professionals" needed three tries to finally successfully remediate my house for mold in 2012. They promised that the indoor air quality (IAQ) in my house was then pristine-- based on follow-up 5-minute air-sample mold testing (which is beyond the scope of this review, but is a complete farce in and of itself). However, they forget (or were too clueless) to tell me about one MINOR issue (facetiousness intended)-- that even the best enzyme-based bioremediation products on the market do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for the residual TRICHOTHECENES in your carpet, on your linens and clothes and furniture, etc. Trichothecene poisoning has led to my toxic encephalopathy, polyendocrinopathy, hypogammglobulinemia, etc etc, and MCS / Toxicant Induced Loss of Tolerance (TILT) / Gulf war syndrome-type syndrome (GWSTS). I'm not whining, simply elaborating enough so that you know that I'm extremely familiar with human mycotoxicosis, and especially the hypersensitive phase of Trichothecene mycotoxicosis. With that preamble-- and due to the incompetence and/or dispassion and/or callousness and/or fear of the men that promised me a clean and healthy IAQ in my house-- I've been left to fend for myself with the Trichothecene contaminated carpet. It took me many months of remaining sick despite agressive therapies to figure out that something was still awry in my house. I finally narrowed it down to the carpet-- and sent samples to an independent lab in March 2014. Trichothecenes were 22.3ppb (translation = 111.5 times above the government-set toxic human threshold). Would have been swell to know this 2 years ago........ Might not still be out of a job and in bed an average of 18+hours/day. So, after requesting carpet removal help from the aforementioned crew-- which by the way are some of the "nations leading mold remediation experts" from both the East and West coasts-- and now 3 months and still waiting for them to squeeze me into their schedules-- TO FINISH AN INCOMPLETED 2-year OLD JOB-- my 71 year old parents and myself have decided that its not gonna get done, and get done right, unless we do it ourselves. I figure that with my health, the project will take about 6 months....... But if its the carpet that is keeping me sick, what other choice is there. Sooooooo---- over past few weeks, I've spent couple partial days taking every precaution, wearing a Tychem suit, a 3M 6900 mask with two 60926 canisters....... Creating plastic vapor barriers to contain the disturbed microbial VOC's......And pulling HIGHLY CONTAMINATED carpet that is filled with dust-bound and free-floating Trichothecene VOC biowarfare neurotoxins. A transient single whiff of Tricho's used to put me in bed with flu-like symptoms for weeks at a time. And while the energy required to perform the current task is challenging due to baseline symptoms, I have NOT experienced any signs or symptoms of EXOGENOUS re-exposure while wearing the 6900 with 60926 canisters. So, I highly recommend them for anyone wondering/needing something to filter macrocyclic sesquiterpene Trichothecenes (a product of Stachybotyrs, Fusarium, Trichoderma molds which can be found in homes with visible OR INAPPARENT water-damage issues). Be safe.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will protect me against the zombie apocalypse?**
A: No, this will not protect you against a zombie apocalypse as zombies are not created through airborne particles. You need a different kind of protection that would protect you from bites, scrapes, etc... it might help if you smashed a zombie in the head with the filter but there are many other tools to help you in those situations. I HIGHLY recommend this kit from Gerber for better protection: http://www.gerbergear.com/Apocalypse/Gear/Apocalypse-Kit_30-000601Good luck, and remember... don't stare at the flowers. ;)

**Q: Can the filter be cleaned and reused?**
A: Yes and no. The filter contains 2 elements...the chemical filter cartridge, and the P100 particle filter material. For the chemical cartridge, it will eventually lose it's ability to filter hazardous chemicals...after 3 years from the manufacture date, after maybe a few weeks upon breaking the package seal ( depending on storage environment), after 8 hours of exposure to chemicals ( depending on chemical type and concentration). Bottom line is it cannot be "reused" to filter hazardous chemicals after it ceases doing so effectively.

The particle filter actually increases in effectiveness as it becomes loaded with particles. The point at which the particle filter must be replaced is when it becomes difficult to breath through, or when it is contaminated with a hazardous substance and cannot be decontaminated.

If using to filter pathogens, the particle filter can be disinfected with hydrogen peroxide (3%-7% H2O2 1 min or more contact time) and used until breathing becomes difficult. Spray with H2O2 until wet and keep wet for at least 1 minute, and allow to dry fully before using again.

Just note, it will no longer filter hazardous chemicals and can be used to filter particles only, and should be marked as such.

If the contaminant is a hazardous substance like asbestos, lead or a chemical, discard the filter using appropriate HAZMAT protocols after 1 use.

**Q: Why are they pink?**
A: From the 3M Cartridge Filter Guide and Brochure:
"Why are the filters and cartridges 'pink'?
When a filter or cartridge has the magenta color code it has
the P100 designation. This color provides uniformity and
easy identification."

**Q: Would this work with cigarette smoke. I cant get a family member to quit and I don't want to breathe their carcinogenic smoke**
A: Short Answer:
3M N100 Mask filters out 99.97% of particles larger than 0.3-Microns (PM2.5 means 2.5-microns or larger). A 3M N100 Mask works well against cigarette smoke and smog covered cities.

Longer Answer:
Your concern is with PM2.5. See explanation below:

The most harmful pollutant to human health is called PM 2.5, particle matter smaller than 2.5 microns in diameter that's found in soot, smoke, and dust. PM 2.5 is especially dangerous because it can get lodged in the lungs and cause long-term health problems like asthma and chronic lung disease.

PM 2.5 starts to become a major health problem when there is more than 35.5 micrograms (µg) of PM 2.5 per cubic meter of air, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. But the World Health Organizations recommends keeping yearly average PM 2.5 levels three times lower than that.

The most polluted cities on Earth have anywhere between 11 and 20 times that amount - based on the new WHO data from cities that collect it.
