**Q: What is the thickness of the wood pieces?**
A: about 1/8", once assembled it feels nice and sturdy. The kids love creating new tunes

**Q: Would the interest of this wear out quickly for a 13 going on 14 year old boy?**
A: It is a fascinating build and may be one he returns to periodically.   The tunes that can be made are akin to what a child's xylophone can play, so my guess would be no.  If, however, he is interested in mechanisms, this has some interesting movements.

Our young granddaughter enjoyed building this music box, then "programing" it with the little pegs, to play songs. The only problem is that the number of beats of a song it can play is very limited.
