It is actually bigger than I thought I was going to need, so I guess maybe I'll have to start making double recipes of guacamole (my recipe uses two avacados, and it only fills a fraction of the bowl). It looks nice on the countertop and works as a attractive serving bowl as well. It's super big and heavy, so it isn't going to move around on your countertop-- just don't drop it, cause it would definitely damage your floors (or your foot).My only problem with it is that mine seems to be made from two different pieces of granite; the pestle is made from dark-colored granite like in the picture, but the main bowl is made from a lighter, more grayish granite. I did lots of research before choosing the Casa Maria one. It is beautiful and sits on my countertop. The weight of over 14 pounds and the flat bottom means it does not move when grinding. The rough inside makes it easier to grind your herbs, spices, whatever. I believe leverage would be better and easier to grind had the manufacturer made the pestle longer.
