You could try a pie crust or phyllo dough, but so far I’ve only tried things I could replicate with little to no effort while camping with minimal ingredients that need to be kept cold. I have not found the handles to be too week as other reviews have said, but you would not be holding this constantly while cooking. You can find a log or rock to prop it up. The handles easily twist out to clean, pack or season the cooker. For the price (I paid $15), this double pie iron definitely delivers.

This makes the nicest camper pies I have ever seen! No flimsy non-stick aluminum - this thing is made from cast iron! It was a little tricky getting the bread to fit inside, but it was well worth the effort once I seen the finished product. I made Reuben sandwiches and the design sealed all the good stuff inside a pocket sandwich! You can use it over a campfire or cheat a little and use it on your cook stove!

I do wish it was a little larger as it doesn't fit normal size bread for hobo pies. You really have to squish the bread in there. However it has held up through many camping trips and does work well.
