I looked at several brands of speakers before making a purchase but noticed that most limit the frequency range that is offered without adding a separate sub woofer. I decided to give these a try as I have heard of the MB Quart name from years ago and remembered they produced some good products (and after reading some good reviews).I purchased these knowing that the bass would not be as deep or as full as what I would get if a sub woofer was present. After getting them installed and making some adjustments with the head unit, I was able to find a suitable listening setting. I have a Dolby Atoms surround and several higher end sets of headphones, so while I'm not a self professed audiophile, I do know good sound when I hear it. These speakers were a little rough on the highs at first but seemed to soften after the first week. That is not to say they sounded bad. Just a little harsh. Overall, these sound very clear and present revealing mid range that allow you to hear what you may have been missing on other speakers. I was also surprised at the amount of bass provided by the woofers. While it is not at the level of what a sub woofer would provide, it was ample for my listening as it was compact and reached lows that some competitors could not offer. Overall I gave these speakers 5 stars because I could not find a pair of 6x9's that could compare to these within the same price range (I got them for $68) and I think you would be hard pressed to find something comparable at even higher price points. My head unit is a new Kenwood that produces 50 watts per channel. I am not using an amp for these speakers. You may also want to bear in mind that these speakers require a stripped wire to slide into the spring loaded hole so you may not need to purchase additional adapters for wiring (unless you want to solder to the wiring terminals).
