## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are larger (wider) jaws available?**
A: They were but no longer. My vise holds all sizes of hooks

**Q: What is common hook size for trolling flys, how many mm do jaws open to?**
A: This vice is designed for small flies, and probably nothing larger than a size 6. I am not familiar with trolling flies, but suspect they are larger than #6, and will require a vice with much larger jaws.

**Q: Why wasn't there any instructions with the vice?**
A: This was my first vice and I had it set up and working in a short time. There are a couple of good reviews on you tube that might help.

**Q: Title says base and description says c-clamp which comes with this vise?**
A: C clamp, it's not a bad Renzetti knock off

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's a Dancia Danvise with some minor improvements
*by M***. on February 13, 2020*

I make hair jigs for crappie, smallmouth bass and occasionally salmon and steelhead. I have used a Danvise for almost a decade and still have the original jaws. I've tied literally thousands of jigs on it in with hook sizes from 10 to 3/0. It's still going strong, but I happened to run across this one while looking for someone else to see if the Danvise was still available on Amazon. At the time of this writing it was not, but I was very curious to see how this clone compared to my original so I decided to order one just in case I should ever need to replace it.All the parts on this Riverruns vise are identical to the Danvise except the jaws and the piece that holds them. You can look up reviews of the Danvise and you'll find it's regarded as one of the best inexpensive vises. That still applies here. The jaws on my original are solid and the Riverruns II are hollow. No functional difference. The jaws shipped very loose and it required tightening the rear set screw further than I thought at first and some jiggling of the cam lever shaft to get it in place. Before that the jaws didn't close, which probably explains the one star review. The other change is to the part that slots into the body of the vise. On the original the screw that holds it in is mounted on the middle so the end of the jaws are only about 1.5" from the flat face that looks like the barrel of a gun. On the new one the screw is mounted at the back and the front is slanted so the tips are much further away, giving you more room behind the hook.Yes, most of the vise is made from plastic, but it's good quality plastic and the parts where it makes a difference are metal. It's also important not to overtighten the jaws on the hook. You do not need to crank down on the tension. Doing so will damage the jaws. There are videos on the Danvise on YouTube showing the proper technique. Watch one BEFORE you use the vise. My original has never given me any problems. Don't let the construction deter you. It's a shame the first review was so negative. I paid $100 for my original Danvise almost a decade ago and I've definitely gotten my money's worth. Unless you are tying very small stuff, the Danvise has been a real workhorse that has never let me down, and this "new" version looks to be even better with the extended reach on the jaws and cheaper price.Highly recommended.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I can rotate the fly
*by N***N on November 23, 2021*

Most of the vice is made out of plastic

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice Vice with lots of features
*by B***W on September 28, 2023*

I bought this vice thinking I'd give fly tying a try and here I am many flies later still loving it. I've used it to tie mostly large Pike and Musky streamers on sizes 2/0 - 6/0 hooks and shanks, but it will also work well for smaller stuff, though the clamping end is rather large for super small hooks. The table clamp is kind of strange but I have it mounted to a work bench and it works wonderfully.I haven't compared it to other vices in this price range but the rotating is a must for tying large flies.
