The principle is that the dots (that's how I used it...as dots on the cross-hatches of interior mullions, so cannot be seen from inside the house) are visible to birds although not so much to us - if enough light to cause a reflective surface generating bird strikes, there is enough to 'shine' ultraviolet for the birds. Was 100% effective in our application. **Q: Does the liquid last longer than the decals? Also, is the liquid effected by washing the window?** A: No, the liquid does not last longer than the decals, but it does last for several months here in Arizona. The decals last for a few years. I just reapply the liquid each time after I wash the windows and it works just as well if not better than the decals. It goes on quickly and dries in about a minute and a bottle goes a long, long way. It doesn't interfere with my view in or out of the windows, but at certain times of the day, I can see what I've drawn on the glass from both sides. I recommend the liquid and will buy it again to use together with decals. Not a single bird has hit the windows since I started using them. **Q: Does this product work on mirrored glass windows?** A: I don't know whether it works on mirrored glass, specifically. The liquid should be applied to the exterior surface. I just refreshed my 'dots' for the season and added some new stickers and haven't had a bird strike since the refresh. It's been easy to tell when the effectiveness wears off; unfortunately we start getting bird deaths again.
