What I did first is soak the filter overnight in purified water. I didn't use tap water because of contaminates that may exists and I did not want to cross-contaminate. Only water should be filtered through the filtration system. No juices or other types of liquids should be used with this filtration. I haven't used my water bottle in several months because of the coronavirus and my office filtration system got contaminated with some other type of bacteria, so we could not use the filtered water system.
