Very Necessary and Fairly Easy to Install

I have four can flood lights in the soffit of my house. All four were infested with wasp or hornet nests. While searching online for a solution to this problem, I found this product. I've since installed four of these, so I wanted to add a few comments.Unless you're installing when the temperature is below 40 F, you should use some wasp or hornet spray a day or two before installing. If you don't spray, you're probably going to be attacked before you even take out the bulb. If you do spray, you will want to avoid inhaling the poison that kills the insects, so don't rush the project.Remove the bulb, which probably is going to be too long to reuse with this product. The manufacturer offers a spacer ring, but I bought some new LED flood lights that were at least an inch shorter than the old incandescent flood lights. The shorter length allows the bulb not to touch the new cover, and the low heat LEDs further minimizes the risk of heat damage to the new polycarbonate cover. The cans usually are held in place by two spring mounts, which need to be undone to remove the cylinder. The part where you screw in the bulb will still be there. Take a broom handle or a cloth and knock out the nests. Next, install the new bulb. The mounting ring is secured by three screws. Be careful to center this as well as you can.The polycarbonate screen often comes loose during shipping and needs to be snapped back into the trim ring. The trim ring must be aligned with the mounting ring and then twisted an inch into the sealed position. The alignment of the three connectors is the hardest part of the process, but not excessively difficult. The result is a pristine, flush-mounted white ring with no visible screw holes. The polycarbonate screen allows air (and perhaps a mosquito to enter), but no wasps or birds. When it is time to change the bulb, you can twist the trim ring counter-clockwise.As I was installing these, I was noticing that this really could have been manufactured as one piece, although this would have had three visible screw holes. If the screws were the same color as the trim ring, it would not have been noticeable, but it would have made installation a bit easier.

Terrific cure to an ongoing problem!!!

What a great idea this was and a very nice personal commentary by the developer of this product with all of his personal contact info. The replacements I found at the big box stores did not quite cover my current boxes all full of bugs, dead and alive, plus the mess they made. So when I checked Amazon these seemed like a good option. Quite a bit more than other replacements, but well worth it. Upon getting everything cleaned out, replacing the light bulbs with a size recommended by the developer and securing the screened cover in place it looked sleek and clean. Within minutes the wasps had returned and tried to reenter their former home. It amazed me how hard they tried and for so long, but never gaining entry. What a great find. Will be ordering more for other cans as well.

    Simple, effective, cheap!

Superb nice fix to our issue! Would have to remove light cover occasionally as it would fill with small bugs. The last turn I removed it the original cover broke so I thought I’d have to purchase a whole new light until I found this bad boy! Simple solution for less than $20 you can’t beat! It’s supposed to keep the bugs out which will be nice but even if some sneak in there It’s a quick twist and you can clean it right up!
