Pets hair dyes are made on the basis of vegetative and fruit components that not only color but also improve the health of the hair considering the peculiarities of animals' skin and fur. We use plant and fruit juices AHA (α-hydroxy acid) as a dye extract to give the intensive color. I applied the dye onto the dogs fur while in my back yard in the grass because dogs tend to “shake” themselves dry. I made sure I had a shady spot to do it in so she didn’t overheat. I bought a cheap skinny black leash to use around her neck as a collar and lead while painting cuz she didn’t exactly LOVE being painted but once she knew she was not going anywhere she was pretty patient with it all. (I removed her nice collar.) I left the dye on for an hour - took her for a walk while I waited. It never fully dries so watch that last walk from outside to inside if you are using your shower to rinse the dye out once it is done setting like I do. Rinse it off walls etc as you rinse the dog. As written on instructions on tube, dye really lasts longer on silky hair but does not last as long on slightly course or really course hair. This dog has silky hair on her face, ears, neck and sides so the color is still pretty rich. She has slightly course hair on her upper body and tail so it is fading a bit there. She has really course hair at the base of her tail on top of her back so it faded a lot there. Swimming in our chlorinated pool also shortens the dyes life span a bit. SUMMARY: When I take her on walks or sit outside a store while my spouse does the shopping, this dog makes even the grumpiest people smile. It has been four months, and despite shaving him super short and weekly baths, he is STILL ORANGE. Slightly more peach colored but very much so orange. My wedding is in April and I was going to have photos taken with Wally. I may need to have those photos done in black and white because I think my dog will still be orange by that point. So overall, amazi product! Pennelope Jane’s fur is white poodle hair so even though she would only allow it to set 5 minutes (20 is recommended on tube), it did the job well. Instead of fading out, it looks like her hair will grow out before the color leaves it. So make sure you are ready to look at the results for awhile. Dye will stain anything it touches. Plan accordingly. We also had some minor transfer onto towels after first few baths.
