You will brutalize and tear up your skin if it is too tight. Try to get a size that will give you good tight compression ( not TOO tight) and some level of comfort. I wear mine 4-8 hours a day and forget I am wearing it. I have been using this product in different sizes for 4 months. No complaints. Good price. This one is reasonably well made and is great for tall people with a long torso like me. Because I read a review or that suggested sizing up I ordered a large which is actually the "true size" for me. Ordinarily I know to size down one for good compression. On day one I was already on the tightest hooks and the compression is not as good as I had hoped because it's not tight enough. In order to achieve great results from a waist trainer you need tight compression. A medium would be a lot better.
