Is it in fact fitted like a sheet would be fitted? From photo, appears it hangs down.** A: Hi Fern, It has a skirt for deep mattress and is fitted like a sheet on the bottom of the skirt. It is also made of very good material and stretches a little but doesn't slip around on the bed. I've had mine for almost a year and am very satisified and would buy again. You should prob look into a memory foam to place on top of your mattress or if your mattress is older than 8-10 years look into replacing it with the pillow tops that are on the market now. **Q: How thick is the pad?** A: The thickness is approx. 1/2-1 inch thick. I have a thick pillow top mattress. I just want to take care of my mattress with a cover and should something fall on my sheets, the extra pad is a barrier. I spent a lot of money on an all enclosed mattress pad for allergens on my son's new mattress and medicine went through the sheets, mattress pad and soiled a spot on the new mattress. I have an 8 inch thick memory foam mattress and it fits great. The stretchy part that goes underneath the mattress is generous in size and stays put.
