**Q: Is this iron-on hem tape? Will the hem survive washing?**
A: No. It is a no-iron, double-sided basting tape for temporary hold: a fitting, a quick fix or until you sew. Do not iron over it, peel it off before washing. It will not survive a wash on its own: a permanent hem needs stitching.

**Q: How wide is the tape? Which width do I need?**
A: Four widths: 1/4 in (6 mm, pencil-thin) for light fabrics and zippers; 0.4 and 0.6 in (10/15 mm) for pants, skirts and curtains; 3/4 in (19 mm) for heavy folds. Rolls are 180 ft (96 ft for 3/4 in). Hem wider than the tape? Go one size up.

**Q: The tape doesn't stick or only one side is sticky. What should I do?**
A: The second sticky side is under a white paper liner: peel it off, fold the fabric over and press hard for 10 seconds. Fabric must be clean, dry and lint-free. Not for heavy denim or leather. Still no hold? Check the liner is off and press again.

**Q: Can I remove it? Will it leave residue or damage the fabric?**
A: Yes, it is removable. Peel it off slowly at a low angle and it comes off cotton and polyester clean. Left on for weeks, in heat or ironed over, it may leave a tacky mark: dab with rubbing alcohol. Test silky or delicate fabrics on an inner seam.

**Q: How much tape is on the roll, and how many projects does it cover?**
A: 180 ft (60 yd) on the 1/4, 0.4 and 0.6 in rolls, 96 ft (32 yd) on 3/4 in, 3 to 4 times more than most hem tapes. A pair of pants takes about 5 ft, a curtain panel 6 to 8 ft, so one roll covers 20 to 35 projects. Store it in the sleeve away from heat.
