Yet the final product is sold for $55/lb more than the best piece for organic grassfed beef. Why?** A: Nicolas, great question! Cricket Powder (flour) is currently still quite pricey, but for good reason. While crickets are easy and moderately cheap to raise, raising them in large quantities actually takes a lot of space and human resources. On average it takes approximately 5000 - 5500 crickets to make a single pound of cricket powder. That's a lot of cricket's when you think about how many pounds companies need to sell to make a viable business. Though people have been consuming insects since the dawn of time, the process of raising them and milling them in such large quantities for human consumption is still relatively quite new. A few companies are currently trying to automate some of this process, but currently it is still a very labor intensive undertaking. As the industry grows you will see this price decrease, but at this point it is still expensive to manufacture this powder on a large scale. As far as prices go, it is actually cheaper per ounce to buy in larger quantities, so we do also sell products in the 1/2lb and 1lb packaging as well.We highly recommend trying cricket powder. It is much more sustainable than beef and other proteins sources, and is naturally packed with vitamins and minerals essential for healthy living.
