    Quality RAM

*by W***Y on Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2014*

My old Core2Duo Quad machine has been serving me reliably for years, and I'm just not ready to put her to the grave just yet. I've already breathed a little more life into her with a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 660 OC and now decided to upgrade my machine from 4 GB RAM to 8 GB. The specs of these sticks were identical to the outgoing sticks I have in my machine, with the exception of twice the memory. Problem is the price was a little high, at $70 for 4 GB it cost me $140 to upgrade. I could have probably just upgraded to 6 GB but I figured I'd go all out before I make the jump to a new machine.Getting the RAM I noticed the quality of the Corsair sticks. They have a heatsink like my old sticks, but the design changed a little, since my old sticks were also the XMS2 brand. The heatsink was a little less robust looking, but had some sharp silver stripes going across the top. They were also a little less bulky. They snapped into my motherboard quite nicely, although I didn't snap a stick down securly and it failed to get to POST. Oops. Quickly remedied and my computer booted up quickly. Despite doubling the amount of RAM my machine didn't seem any faster, but that was to be expected with the same 800MHz speed and latency timings of 5-5-5-18. A little overclock may help but I'm not looking to do that now. I did notice a slight boost in some games, especially some RAM heavy games such as some RTS games and Max Payne 3. 4 GB is barely the minimum on most games now and the extra RAM certainly is felt.+Pros:+Sturdy, solid build quality.+Heatsink should improve longevity.+Speed increased noticed in some games.+Easy to install.-Cons:-Very pricy, especially compared to DDR3 RAM.-No increase in speed during most regular computer operations. With DDR2 almost completely dead, I'm not surprised I couldn't find many options for RAM. I probably would have stuck with the Corsair sticks since my old sticks have been nothing but good to me for years, it would have been nice to have some more options. The price was a hit on my wallet, but since I plan on pushing this machine out for about another year, it was worth the investment. Even with some great chipsets out there, such as the i5's and i7's, I just couldn't make the jump with Intel ramping up some 8 core processors and AMD talking 12 cores! If you're on the border like me and want that last little upgrade after a video card, definitly take the hit and go for the larger amount of RAM.

Wish I could give it five stars!

*by J***A on Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2011*

First and foremost... it saddens me that I cannot give this product five stars. The reason being is that it is common to receive a defective stick. This seems to be easily overlooked due to Amazons most awesome return process. A couple clicks online and a repackage. Placed the package on my front porch and UPS came and picked it up. In less than two weeks the refund was fully credited to my account. By that time I already had a second pair ordered and installed. On another note... this RAM is a huge value for the money. Let me say that its weird that Corsair would void their lifetime warranty if you claim the rebate. BUT, if you receive the RAM in good working condition. It would be improbable that any defect would ever occur to have to use the warranty. Most warranty claims are from product being defective upon purchase. RAM doesn't usually go bad unless its an "operator error", and in that case Corsair wouldn't warranty it anyways. If you are looking for a solution to your DDR2 Ram needs, this is it. If you are running 32 bit windows, buy one kit and use only that pair of RAM. If you are running 64 bit... buy two and use only those two pairs of RAM. This RAM should be compatible with any board with DDR2 slots. NOTE... not all RAM is compatible with all RAM. This is why I say to use only this. This RAM is PC6400 and has a max speed of 800mhz. Your board will either use all of this... or downspeed your RAM to the boards max speed. At this value its not cheaper to buy the lower speed DDR2. If you use this RAM with other compatible RAM of a lesser speed. Your board should downspeed it to the slower RAMS speed. Which is why I would suggest using only this RAM to keep the higher 800mhz DDR2 speed. And seriously 4GB of RAM is plenty for most any application. I run an old E6600 on a i975x with one kit of this corsair, windows 7 32 bit. And its plenty fast enough for anything. I ran just one of this RAM sticks for awhile single channel, just for giggles. Then added the other a week later. There wasn't much difference in day to day use of the PC.BUY THIS RAM!
