This product had all the features I needed so I took the chance despite other reviews. First, it was very easy to put together. Took me about 45 minutes with a standard screwdriver. The pieces are labeled and the directions are decent. It's easy to clean & move. Convenient access for changing food & bedding. Prospective buyers should know a few things: -This cage is absolutely not waterproof. It is not appropriate for ground contact and will not protect your animal from rain. If you decide to attempt this you'll need to seal the wood and use tarp or pressure treated lumber underneath. I have it under cover on concrete so this wasn't a concern for me. -I can't speak for mammals but it's perfect to brood up to (6) chicks or ducklings for the first 4-6 weeks of their lives, but that's it. It's not tall enough for mature chickens or ducks. -A heat plate is fine, but this does not appear safe to use with a heat lamp. The metal bars can melt.

I bought this enclosure for my red footed tortoise. I like the design and it was for the most part easy to assemble, but I would have liked for parts to be labeled as shown in the instructions. It took less than an hour to put together. I plan on placing it outside during the warmer months of the year and move it inside the garage when it gets colder. My only disappointment is that one of the pieces was bent and we had to bend it back with pliers to make it fit. Also the wooden parts had a very strong pine smell. Overall I am happy with my purchase and hope it’s not falling apart 6 months from now.
