Not impressed with quality of splicing

*by V***K on Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2015*

I wanted to replace galvanized steel thimble with stainless steel one, unpacked the rope from its factory wrapping and first thing that caught my attention is the fact that rope is so loosely twisted and spliced that thimble almost fell out on its own.It took no effort at all to replace thimble, if holding by thimble and pulling on rope, it all tightens up but when let loose, ends of splicing and thimble are just falling apart.I can't help but wonder if it can serve the purpose at all, just tossing it around for a while produced more evident deterioration to splicing with sharp ends catching fibers, separating strands and deteriorating rope's integrity further.I am going to have to splice the rope myself, seal the ends uniformly and secure the thimble against falling out when rope is not under tension.I need some large shrink wrap so trip to electronic store is first step, plan is to feed two pieces of about 5 inches long shrink wrap onto the rope, make a clean and uniform splice, stretch the rope to seat the thimble and splice properly then seal it in that state by shrink wrap so it cannot get undone when rope is relaxed. If that doesn't do it, two crimped stainless steel rings will, one by the thimble and one at the end of splice. The rope itself is no better and no worse then one I can find in local hardware store, mediocre splicing job has to be fixed.Update:Heat shrink did the trick, if you follow this trick be sure to get correct size shrink wrap, it shrinks to half of its original size, therefore you need3/4 inch shrink wrap to seal 3//8 inch rope splicing.Because splicing is larger in diameter then original rope, stop applying heat when there is evidence of snug confirmation to splicing contour.Let this cool for few minutes then apply second piece over it, this creates fairly thick, rubber like skin over splicing that remains flexible and holds splicing against falling apart when stored loose.Heat gun is essential for uniform and controlled heat application, if done right, heat shrink will hug rope's contour and prevent it from coming loose, yet remain in flexible, rubber like state, if it gets dry and hard, you got too much heat on it and need to redo the whole thing with new piece. My anchor line is now 4 star product that should have been done to higher quality standard at the factory. If there was an advantage in price, it got eaten by having to re do splicing and changing thimble to stainless steel.

Has galvanized thimble, rope seems a little thin

*by J***’ on Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2015*

Thimble is great quality and made of galvanized steel. I expected the rope to be a little thicker, seems a little thin compared to other 3/8" ropes that I have seen. It will work for our 19' fish & ski boat. I purchased the Airhead line winder to go with this. The line wonder barely holds this 150' rope, but it works.

Good for anchoring a small boat. I use it on my 18' Spectrum SD.

I've used this on my anchor for 3-4 times this season. It seems to be holding up well and I have no complaints at this point.
