If you want to future proof your wiring, get Cat 8 but at the speeds you mention, a decent shielded Cat 5e or Cat 6 or 6a will work just fine. You'll see no speed boost just from a "faster" cable. Avoid Cat 7 and 7A due to finicky proprietary connector issues. **Q: Does this have to plug into the router or can it plug into a Wifi extender?** A: If your wifi extender is set to allow connections to your main access point via the Ethernet port, then yes. It will work just like any other Ethernet cable.
