A few years after that I read Gathering Blue and loved it even more. I never knew the two were connected. After learning of the quartet, I drooled over this book constantly until my fiancé felt it better for everyone involved if I just got the book lol. This is an amazing quartet. It doesn't seem connected u til you really get into it, but all the subtleties of the stories really pull it together. The themes offered up in this book beg to be pondered and lingered over. The stories as individuals are wonderful stories. But, finally, reading them all together creates an entire world within which one can roam free and learn. I greatly recommend this book, these stories, to anyone of reading age. Having already read the first two many times over, I am certain I will read this quartet time and again and gain something new from it each time. Lois Lowry offers up an insightful and riveting world full of heartbreakingly poignant characters. A masterful quartet.
