All Goldenrod oilers are made in our manufacturing plant in Hastings, Nebraska, USA, and have been for many, many decades! **Q: does it work for gear oil** A: Yes it will pump gear oil. I use it to lubricate my motorcycle chain. **Q: Can this be shaken without leaking?** A: The concern would be where the plunger pin goes through the lid to connect to the piston. There is a seal on the pin, but it is not a real tight seal because of the way it operates. You will probably get some leaking if you shake the oiler, especially with lower viscosity fluids. **Q: Can this be used from all angles (e.g. upside-down) or does it need to be straight in order for the oil to pump?** A: Thanks for your question! Because this 625 is a pistol pump oiler, oil has to be in the pump for it to function properly, so using it upside down will probably not work.
