Review: Easy to use and accurate, app is better than it used to be - I purchased this almost 2 years ago after having sinus surgery and discovering I have high blood pressure. I wanted something that could be used for more than one person if necessary and a app that would keep track of readings for me. The monitor itself is easy to use and accurate. I've taken my blood pressure before going to a Dr appointment for a recheck and the readings have always been close. Battery Life When I first purchased this, I was taking my BP 3 or 4 times a day for about a month. I have it set to True Read with 15 seconds between readings. That's 9 - 12 readings a day for a month. I eventuallybacked off and just check in the morning before I get out of bed and at night before I go to sleep, so it's now at 6 total readings a day. With this much usage, I find that I have to replace the batteries about every 3 to 4 months. If you don't use True Read or don't check daily, the batteries could easily last for a year or more. Movement and Irregular beat detection I'm not sure I would rely on it to detect something like Afib. I have found that a very slight movement will show as irregular heartbeat and it take quiet a bit of movement to trigger the movement alert. When I first noticed this on readings, I started paying closer attention to what was happening at the time of the reading and more often than not, there was a slight movement in my arm, but there were times where it would show up with no movement. After several occurances with no movement, I decided to discuss with my doctor and have further testing done. This can't replace a trip to the doctor, but it can give you important information to discuss in your visits and may help catch something early. Mobile App The app has come a long way in the last two years. It's advertised as automatically syncing with your device, but I have found that to not be the case. The previous version of the app would never sync unless you opened the app. The latest version will sync without the app open, but it seems pretty random. Sometimes I open it to find that the previous reading has already synced, but most of the time, it hasn't synced since I last opened the app, which has most likely been a few days.
Review: Review & Encouragement - REVIEW The Omron Platinum BP Monitor is registered with the FDA as a medical device and when you receive it you will understand why. It is a precision electronic instrument. Here are some highlights: • The monitor is heavy duty and finely crafted. • It has a real BP cuff with a D-ring that allows you to easily get it snug around your arm. • It has a variety of features, including a 3-take average and an alert for morning hypertension. • It has a carry case and an AC power supply. • It has a comprehensive, printed manual. • It is easy to unpack even if you problems with dexterity. • It is easy to read the display even if you have less than good vision. In short, this is a device you would expect to see used in professional home health care. You pay more but you get a lot more. If you want something that looks like it should be included with a happy meal, then spend $29.95. But first, ask yourself this. “What is my life worth?” ENCOURAGEMENT High blood pressure is a silent killer that affects about half of the US population, according to best estimates. I did not get one of the best BP monitors you can buy because I have high blood pressure. I got it because I DON’T WANT HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE! And the best way to avoid problems is to watch what your body is doing. I got into taking care of myself back when they laughed and called you a “health food nut.” No one calls me that anymore and my contemporaries stopped laughing a long time ago, those that are still alive. I take no medications and have boundless energy. I just ran 2 miles in the hills yesterday and tonight I will lift weights. I can stand with my legs straight and put my palms flat on the floor. I can balance on one leg and hold the other straight out for more than a minute. I am a lot older than you would guess if you saw me. How did I do it? Simple. Almost no alcohol, tobacco or drug use (I experimented briefly with cigarettes when I was a kid). Eating organic (no additives) and low on the food chain. Drinking bottled water. Protecting myself from chemicals in food and the environment. Reading about health and using good judgment rather than following fads. Exercising vigorously and often. Not letting anyone make me feel like a stick-in-the-mud for being cautious about my health. I may not have a medical degree but I have figured out that taking care of yourself pays off in dividends that are worth more than money. Just ask anyone who is sick. If you have a problem, your doctor is going to advise medication and you should listen to her. But you should also look to your lifestyle and change everything you can to improve your health. Your goal should always be to enjoy good health naturally because medications have side effects and will never completely compensate for a poor diet, inactivity, destructive habits or environmental toxins. I have some regrets in my life, but taking care of myself has never been one of them. I know it is difficult, but ask yourself this question. “What is my life worth?”

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the warranty? The only answer I find is that the warranty is in the app ... i don't want to have to install an app to find warranty**
A: Be careful with Omron warranty, they state 5-6 years but coverage is very shady. Their warranty doesn't cover things that happen most often. Many people experience the issues with the plug broken (the blue plug, which connects the tube to the machine) and unfortunately this part is only covered within 1 year (stated in the manual). Once broke, they don't sell just the plug but instead the entire cuff, which costs around $30+.

**Q: Does anyone else find the cuff unwieldy to use when attaching to your arm?**
A: Yes I purchased my bp5450 Jan. 2023 after having my first omron for over fifteen years. Have had high bp all my adult life and am very familiar with cuffs. This one is the worst ever. Can’t get a good fit. Result inaccurate reading. Big problem omron I have been loyal to your brand please help me. This cuff is unwieldy and I’ll fitting. I have normal size upper arms.

**Q: Does this require a cell phone & an app to work?**
A: The machine functions on its own without a cell phone & app and saves up to 100 readings each for 2 different users. It also has a guest mode so if others use it, it doesn’t interfere with the saved readings for the 2 users. The cell phone & app allows you to download the data so you can keep more readings, and/or you can send the data file to your doctor, family members, etc.

**Q: Is this device calibrated and Independently verified? (by which verfication group?)**
A: I have no doubt that the device has been responsibly validated, but I also have no doubts that none of the four different models I bought measured correctly when compared with the new devices at my doctor's office. It is possible that my small stature (5'4"/140 lbs.) and age (82) were factors, but having four well-rated monitors measure incorrectly was too much for me.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reliable BP machine
*by J***. on April 14, 2025*

Excellent device, which has reliability and accuracy reported by major organizations - look them up. I have purchase 4 of these machines, for use in various settings and with several relatives. All performed well. I have compared them with traditional manual cuffs and even a mercury manometer, with good results. There are several versions of this product, especially the gold and platinum models. We have found the backlit platinum version to be the best for visibility, with the white on black numerals. It is certainly better in low light and for persons with limited vision. I have mentioned elsewhere that any single BP reading will vary to a degree, which is why you need to take several readings and look at the average. That variation also occurs based on the machine, setting and operator. A BP reading taken as soon as you set foot in your physician’s office, without time to rest, will probably not be as accurate as one taken after you have had time to relax and settle. That is the main benefit of this device, in that you can take your readings in the comfort of your home and bring them with you to your physician’s office. I have read several articles that report automated BP machines may be more accurate than manual BP machines. This is a little embarrassing, in that after 40 years as a practicing physician, I thought I could take a better BP than any machine. So, I have swallowed my pride and bring a record of my home BP readings on this machine to all my physician visits. You might visit the American Heart Association sites and read their opinions on how to take BP readings. They are enlightening and address some of the more “interesting” comments in some reviews.
