The bags themselves are very light and can be rolled into a compact form that will fit easily in a purse or pocket but each bag will hold up to 45 lbs. I've had a set in another (sadly discontinued) pattern made by the same company (when they went under the name "Envirosax") out of the same material since the 1990's and the bags have stood up exceptionally well to regular use. Mainly I use the bags for shopping but I've used them for picnics, to carry stuff to the beach or park, to hold my gardening tools, etc. and they are easy to wash and seem to resist staining well. They look as good as new after more than 15 years and I still regularly receive many compliments on them. I bought this set ("Garden Party") for my mother (to replace a set that was stolen from her car) so chose one that fits her style and the pattern isn't really to my personal taste. However, the colors are much more attractive than I expected from looking at the picture on a computer/Kindle screen. One warning about these sets: the company used to sell replacement pouches (the one thing that many of the people I've given sets to have misplaced.. leaving them in check out lines etc. over the years) but they seem to, at least currently, have stopped doing so. Not an problem if one plans on keeping individual bags in the glove compartment/purse/etc. but personally I find the pouch very handy to carry a full set to the grocery store on a weekly shopping trip. Having said that, I still have the pouch from my original set so I suppose whether this is an issue depends on how easily one becomes accustomed to checking that one has any unused bags and the pouch before leaving the store.
