He can hold my hand and when he lets go we are both secure in the fact that he can only go so far, allowing him some freedom and space and me security and peace of mind. They have a magnetic "key" attached to the adult end that is used to unlock the child's wristlet, even the clasps cannot be opened without it. My independent grandson doesn't like that I have to help him take it off but only because he doesn't understand the keyed aspected.
